- Large statement dangle earrings
- Hand made in our Nelson Bay studio
- Limited edition
The JUNGLE FEVER collection of earrings are a combination of hand formed polymer clay and laser cut timber.
The terazzo inspired pattern of the polymer clay components is unique to this collection and will never be repeated in this exact form/colourway again.
The detail on the pair of earrings you receive may differ slightly from the pair pictured, however each pair has been cut from the same slab of patterned clay. This makes each pair slightly different and extra special.
Timber components are made of 3mm walnut veneer timber. These componets are hand drawn and then laser cut by us in the studio on our Trotec Laser Machine, Larry.
All stud backings are high quality stainless steel and suitable for sensitive ears.
I use 'comfort backings' that have a plastic flange to sit comfortably and securely against the back of your ear lobe. Refer to the second image, not of this exact pair, but shows the backings used.
The nature of polymer clay and timber we use makes even the biggest statement dangles lightweight and easy to wear.
Each pair of earrings is approx 3mm thick
Dangles are approx 70mm in height
The backing card the earrings are on is a standard postcard size, which can give you some idea as to scale.
MORE ABOUT MATERIALS
Polymer clay is a non-toxic PVC based medium. Once conditioned it is fired to cure. Fired correctly, Polymer Clay is lightweight, slightly flexible and incredibly strong.
Timber is an oiled walnut timber veneer ply.
These are what are called slab earrings.
I create a slab of clay where I effectively 'paint' a picture or design, layer colours and add textures before the individual pieces are cut from the slab. Pieces are cut from a number of different slabs that form part of the collection and then mixed together to create the final combinations.
Components are baked in an oven to be cured.
Individual pieces are then sanded to ensure nice smooth edges and then drilled before being assembled along with cut timber pieces.
Although polymer clay is strong you will need to take care of them for them to last for years to come.
Timber and Polymer Clay are porous materials. Don't wear them swimming or where they are likely to get soaked. Keep your jewellery away from perfume or harsh chemicals.
You can clean your clay jewellery by wiping over with a damp cloth. Small marks on your clay components may be able to be wiped clean with a small amount of rubbing alcohol, used sparingly, on a cotton tip.
